Phantom Dogtooth Calcite Plate from the mines in Santa Eulalia,
Chihuahua, Mexico. It has several sharp Scalenohedral (dogtooth) clear
calcite crystals with phantom hematite inner red and maroon crystals and
exterior coating of hematite almost skin like which several of the spikes are
outgrowing. There are unique orbicular patterns on the black coating on
several spikes which are visible in the photos. This calcite also glows with
red under a UV lamp on the edges and bottom. And there are a few spikes
that glow red fluorescent on the crystals themselves. Measures 4.2 x 1.1 x
1.7 inches (10.6 x 2.8 x 4.3 cm ) and weighs 136g ( 4.8 oz) Calcite gets its
name from "chalix" (the Greek word for lime). Phantoms are other minerals
where the calcite has grown over and around them.
