Noreena Jasper Display Slab from Australia (Polished One Side)

$48.00

Sold

Noreena Jasper occurs in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, not far from the iron ore mining town of Newman, some 1,100km (700 miles) north of the capital, Perth. The deposit is located on Roy Hill Station close to the boundary with Noreena Downs Station.

The rock tends to break into angular pieces which contain the most wonderful "geometric", abstract designs. Until the rock is cut, you do not know what will be revealed.

Noreena Jasper is from the same geological formation as Munjina Stone. They both occur in the Jeerinah Formation which is part of the Fortescue Group in the Hamersley Basin.  Age is late Archaean & was deposited between 2765 & 2687  million years ago. It is a silicified pelite (mudstone)

This is polished on one side

Weighs 21.4oz or 1.34 lbs (609g) and measures 6.9 x 4.6 x 0.88 inches (17.7 x 11.7 x 2.23cm)

Rare Angle Plated Quartz Thick Display Slab from Travellers Rest, SC

$65.00

Sold

This is a very unusual and rare specimen of a variety of quartz not seen since the 1980s. These are the most exotic and best pieces we ever found of Angle Plated Quartz specimens. These are certainly some of the most fascinating and unusual quartz varieties from any world-wide locality.

Angle Plated Quartz is a very uncommon form of quartz that only occurs in the upstate region of South Carolina (Greenville, Pickens and Oconee Counties) and southern North Carolina. Our specimens came from a 33 year old collection from Travelers Rest, Greenville County, South Carolina. Travelers Rest, the northernmost city in Greenville County, is located 10 miles north of Greenville and about 20 miles south of the North Carolina border.

No one is sure how it forms but one idea is that silica is precipitated into cracks in the red clay. Eventually these cracks are filled with micro-crystalline quartz and the “plates” are often encrusted with drusy quartz. It is brittle and porous which is unlike any other form of quartz. Whatever the mode of formation is, these are certainly a striking and rare quartz variety. This fabulously naturally sculptured piece has been sawed into its present exotic slab-like form. We have not seen these for sale in a long time.

.This specimen weighs 7.48 oz or 0.47 lb (212g) and measures 5.3 x 2.6 x 1.17 inches (13.5 x 6.7 x 3 cm)
