Rare Mossy Plume Agate Black Rock Thunderegg Slab

This is a wonderful example of the “Best of the Best” of the Nevada Black Rock Thundereggs.  This stunning large and
thick polished slab was obtained direct from the owners who mine these Thundereggs in McDermitt, Northern Nevada.
This specimen is laced with swirls of beautiful mossy golden plume and has a window of opaque banded Chalcedony.  This
is a really rare piece, as most of the Thundereggs from the Black Rock Desert area do not have anywhere near the
amount of mossy plume that this specimen contains and are normally much smaller. This slab is nicely polished on one
face and contains natural fault cracks.
This specimen weighs 0.53 lb (243g) and measures 6 x 4 x 0.31 inches (153 x 101 x 8mm)

Nevada Black Rock
Desert
Some of the best and most
distinctive Thundereggs
are from locations now
closed off and unavailable.
In this case, the area has
been designated a
wilderness area by the
Bureau of Land
Management (BLM) and
closed. Wilderness or not,
the Black Rock Desert
Thundereggs are still some
of our personal favorites,
for that wonderful brick-red
matrix and especially if we
find a mossy plume
specimen. The Black Rock
Desert is located in the
northwest corner of
Nevada, north of Gerlach
and west of Winnemucca.
The lands there are all
wilderness protected
areas, a few old personal
claims and Indian
Reservation areas. Some
rockhounding is still
permitted with strict
limitations.
