| Wulfenite is a lead molybdate mineral. It is a secondary mineral produced in the oxidized zones of lead and molybdenum deposits. Its associated minerals are Calcite, Fluorite, Quartz, Mimetite, Vanadinite, Galena, Cerussite, Anglesite It is most often found as thin tabular crystals with a bright orange-red to butterscotch color, sometimes even brown to black. Yellow Wulfenite is sometimes called "yellow lead ore". Wulfenite is normally some shade of yellow to orange or brown. It is transparent to translucent. Wulfenite crystals from Los Lamentos, Chihuahua, Mexico are usually found in groupings of resinous, dull orange/brown, tabular wulfenite crystals. Sizes of individual crystals may measure up to 1.5 centimeters. The most famous locality for Wulfenite is the Red Cloud Mine in Arizona. Wulfenite is named for Franz Xavier von Wulfen (1728-1805), an Austrian mineralogist. |

| Wulfenite on Iron Matrix from Mexico This specimen features nicely terminated blocky brown to orange colored wulfenite crystals on all faces of the specimen. The wulfenite crystals have good luster, and range from 1/8” to 1/2” tall, 1/8” to 3/8” wide, and 1/16” to 5/16” thick. They are nice thick tabular terminated crystals. The overall dimensions are 3.6 x 3.5 x 2 inches (91 x 89 x 51mm). This specimen weighs 7.6 oz (217g). The locale is the classic Los Lamentos Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico. |
