Pyrope Garnet var. Rhodolite from North Carolina

Rhodolite is a variety of rose-pink to red mineral Pyrope, a species in the garnet group. It is found in the Cowee Valley gemstone locality in Macon County, Western North Carolina, situated near the Town of Franklin, NC. The name is derived from the Greek meaning "rose-like" which is common with many pink mineral types such asRhodochrosite or Rhodonite. The name Rhodolite itself is not officially recognized as a mineralogical term. The coloring and the normally inclusion-free nature of garnets from this locality have resulted in Rhodolite being in great demand as a semi-precious gemstone.
