238g Needles Blue Agate in Matrix Large Rough Specimen 13

Description

This is an exceptionally large, rare and beautiful 238g rough piece with large pieces of Needles Blue Agate in matrix in its host Rhyolite. This is an old stock specimen that we found several decades ago from an elderly woman in Arizona. It has been in our personal collection for many years. She was a member of the Needles rock and gem club and said this was her favorite find from the Blue Danube Mine digging near Lake Havasu that she did. Large roughs with this much Blue Agate are few and far between as anyone who has been searching for this rare gem silica chalcedony knows. Its blue coloring comes from the copper minerals, where the agate has filled in the cracks of its rhyolitic host stone. The Agate colors include dark, medium and light blue with some browns and white. This specimen makes a stunning one-of-a-kind display.

This specimen weighs 8.4 oz or 0.52 lb. (238g) and measures 2.4 x 2.3 x 1.8 inches (6.3 x 5.8 x 4.7 cm)
