Dalmation Jasper Sphere 5 from Mexico

Description

This is a 50 mm (2″) sphere from Chihuahua, Mexico that we have had for about a decade in our personal collection. Although this stone has been called Dalmation Jasper for many years, it actually is not a true jasper. It got it’s name because it’s an opaque cream/beige colored igneous rock with dark spots making it look like a Dalmation dog’s coat.

It really is a microgranite or peralkaline igneous rock composed of feldspar and quartz with dark spots of arfvedsonite, which is often mistakenly identified as black tourmaline (Schorl). This is a truly unique sphere for your collection.

This sphere weighs 6.1 oz or 0.38 lbs. (173g) and has a 2″ (50 mm) diameter
