Description
Old Stock Large Cabinet Terlingua Calcite from Terlingua, Texas
The name “Terlingua Calcite” refers only to that Calcite which has bright blue fluorescence under SW ultra-violet light and has strong blue phosphorescence. When switched to a LW ultra-violet light the specimen changes color to a bright pink fluorescence but will not display any phosphorescence. True Terlingua Calcite is from Texas. More specifically it is from the “Little 38 Mine” which is about 4 miles west of Terlingua in Brewster County, Texas. We were able to pick up many old stock mineral specimens from a rock shop that closed down after 33 years in business. This specimen was in a box marked “Terlingua 38 Mine”. We also obtained a few marked “Terlingua-like Mex” which we list as were labeled.
This large cabinet display specimen fluoresces excellent colors with amazing phosphorescence. Photos taken with a Nikon CoolPix L-1 under a Way Too Cool 254 nm SW 9-Watt Lamp and a 365 nm LW 9-Watt Lamp in a blackout display box. Own a Classic!
Specimen weighs 48.3 oz or 3.02 lbs (1.37 kg) and measures 5.9 x 3.6 x 3.4 inches (15.1 x 9.1 x 8.7 cm)
