Description
Large Cabinet specimen of Apatite Crystals in Biotite Mica Matrix
This Large specimen has multiple lustrous green apatite crystals on a matrix of coarse “books” of brown biotite mica. Biotite is found in many common igneous and metamorphic rocks. It is somewhat darker than the phlogopite mica found in North Carolina.
This specimen is from the Bear Lake Diggings, a commercial mineral collecting site located near the village of Tory Hill in Monmouth township, southeast Haliburton County, west of Bancroft in Ontario Canada. Besides stunning green apatite, this popular rockhound locality also is known for sphene, calcite and biotite, amphibole and feldspar to name a few favorites. This rare specimen was hand selected from a Canadian Minerals Dealer booth at the 2024 Franklin, NC. Rock Gem and Mineral Show.
This specimen weighs 27.1 oz. or 1.7 pounds (770g) and measures 5.2 x 3.6 x 3.2 inches (13.3 x 9.2 x 8.2 cm)
