Mystery Rocks
From time to time we procure a box of rocks and minerals with no identification or locale indicated. Most of
these we are able to determine what minerals and where they are from. Sometimes we run across some that we
cannot specifically identify the minerals or the locale. We do not guess at these things, so we finally decided to
list these from time to time , telling you what we have found out about them. We will always sell them for under
$30.00. If you buy any of these, we would like your feedback telling us what you found out about them. We know
we have customers with a far more comprehensive knowledge of earth sciences than we do. So...have fun...
Item # MR1
Mystery Rock #1

There is purple fluorite in a tan wheat sheaf like matrix (Hardness 2.5,
streak white, vitreous...it MAY be a Calcite). We know we have seen
this matrix sometime ago...but can't remember where. It kind of looks
like it might be a Zeolite....what do you think?

specimen weighs 8.6 oz or 0.54 lb (246g)
measures 4 x 3 x 2.3 inches (10.2 x 7.6 x 6cm)
Item # MR2
Mystery Rock #2

There is pink/purple almost a ruby color crystal formation on matrix. This was an old
Virginia collection piece that was labeled as a  Corundum....we know it is not
that...corundum has a hardness of at least 8...this mineral only has a hardness of 5 and
streaks white...what do you think?

specimen weighs 4.2 oz or 0.26 lb (121g) measures 2.6 x 2 x 1.3 inches (6.8 x 5.3 x 3.5cm)
