Amazonite
Amazonite (Sometimes called “Amazon Stone”) is a green to blue green (“turquoise looking” in color) variety of microcline that is suitable for carving and polishing.
The perthite variety is a striped, veined or almost zebra-pattern stone, produced by lamellar intergrowths inside the crystal. The colored stripes are microcline and the white or clear stripes are feldspars. If there is more feldspar than microcline it is called antiperthite.
Amazonite is found in the United States, Brazil, India, China, Namibia, and Russia.
Old legends say that this stone got its name from being found by the Amazon River, others say it was named after the Amazon Female Warriors who used this stone powdered as war paint.
Amazonite Is a really unique stone that is often confused with jade or turquoise.
