Description
This is a spectacular specimen with multiple pods of brown Tephroite (SW/UV Black) showing lamellae of Exsolution Willemite (SW/UV green) in snow white Calcite (SW/UV red). There are also a few small masses of copper red Zincite and black Franklinite (SW/UV= Non Fluorescent). Many of the pods of Tephroite are surrounded by very bright Willemite reaction rims. The Willemite shows a bit of phosphorescence. This specimen was collected by a Sterling Hill miner and was part of his personal collection. This piece is from the Sterling Hill Zinc Mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey. Photos taken with a Nikon CoolPix L- 1 camera under a “Way Too Cool” 254 nm SW 9-Watt Lamp in a blackout display box.
