Calcite, Willemite, Franklinite and Ruby Zincite from the Sterling Hill Mine

“A” Grade Large Cabinet Calcite,Franklinite, Willemite and Ruby Zincite from the Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey. This unique specimen explodes in color under SW Ultra-Violet light Calcite fluoresces a brilliant orange, Willemite a brilliant green with a nice daylight presentation as well. Franklinite and Zincite are non-fluorescent black. This is also an excellent phosphorescent specimen.

Zincite can resemble a form of a zinc sulfide gemstone called sphalerite. The term “ruby zinc” is a common sphalerite nickname. Local New Jersey nicknames for a rare reddish gem-like zincite on fluorescent specimens from the zinc mines are also called “ruby zinc” or “ruby zincite”
