Description
Fuchsite Quartz
This is a polished on one face slab from the Mount Regal mine, Karratha, Roebourne Shire, Western Australia, Australia. The mine is located 12 kilometres south-west of Karratha.
This is marketed locally as ‘Karratha jade’, although it has no relationship to true jade or jadeite. Fuchsite is a green Mica found in Quartz. It can often be included with trace minerals of Copper or Chromium.
The Mount Regal Mine is a chrome chalcedony mine, hosted on a ridge of folded, moderately dipping Archean beds of green, brittle, chrome rich chert near ultramafic rocks. The green chert beds are massive, extremely fine grained quartz-sericite-kaolinite, with fuchsite, which colors the rock green, and vein quartz and quartz-chalcedony stringers.
Weighs 18.9 oz or 1.18 lbs (537g) and measures 6 x 4 x 0.8 inches (15.2 x 10.3 x 2 cm)
