Manganoan / Cobaltoan Calcite with Pyrite from Peru 17

Description

This is an exciting NEW FIND that we saw at the July 2024 Franklin NC Rock Gem and Mineral show. There was a dealer from Peru there and he only had a few of these specimens. We were going to buy more specimens but another customer was quicker than we were. We were still able to get this one Very Special piece.

This is a stunning large cabinet display piece with both fluorescent and daylight presence. This is a Cobaltoan variety of Calcite which is seen as a highly fluorescent orange under SW ultra violet light. Fluorescent photos were taken in a blackout box with a Nikon CoolPix L-1 under a “Way Too Cool” 254 nm (SW) 9-Watt Lamp.

There are multiple sizes of etched pyrite crystals on this rare Manganoan Calcite that has a whisper of light pink color in daylight viewing. We are really excited by this wonderful and extremely rare specimen, one of natures finest natural works of art!

specimen weighs 29.5 oz or 1.845 lb. (837g) and measures 5.7 x 3.25 x 2.96 inches (14.4 x 8.2 x 7.5 cm)
