Description
Minnesota Thomsonite is a RARE zeolite mineral found only at the Lake Superior shoreline SW of Grand Marais. This specimen has a single polished face Thomsonite (10.4 x 8.2mm) in a rough Basalt Matrix. The matrix has small Thomsonite nodules visible. Digging the Thomsonite out of the Basalt is quite a process. This is how all the individual Thomsonite specimens were found. They were then dug out of the matrix and polished.
This specimen measures 2 x 1.9 x 0.79 inches (5 x 4.9 x 2 cm) and weighs 1.96 oz (56g)
