Samyta Agates
Samyta Agate
Magnificent Samyta agates are a rare form of agate found in the 1990’s near the Condor agates in the Patagonia region of Argentina. When in the rough uncut form it is very difficult to tell a Condor from a Samyta agate. Once cut open, these wonderful agates display a showy white crystallization in a translucent agate background with White, Caramel Brown, Red, Green, Yellow and Gray showing a beautiful design shape. This particular Agate variety appears only in Argentina, Patagonia. They have a wide range of colors and designs in banded and layered agate. Many collectors call this a variety of Condor Agate, we prefer Samyta on it's own.
Agate is a striped chalcedony quartz that forms in concentric layers in a wide variety of colors and textures. An individual agate forms by filling a cavity in a "host" rock. As a result, agate often is found as a round nodule, with concentric bands. In ancient times it was said to quench thirst and guard against fever, and agate bowls were very popular in historical Europe. This particular Agate variety appears only in Argentina.
These Samyta Agates are from the “La Belen” mine near Buta Ranquil, Neuquen and Mendoza at the edge of the Andes mountains on the western side of Patagonia.
