Shattuckite

ShattuckiteShattuckite is a relatively rare copper silicate mineral. It was first discovered in the copper mines of Bisbee, Arizona, specifically the Shattuck Mine (hence the name). It is a secondary mineral that forms from the alteration of other secondary minerals. Normally it forms pseudomorphs after malachite with little alteration of the outward shape of the original crystal structure by another crystal structure. (Pseudo-morph is Greek for "false shape").

This Rare Copper Mineral has only been found in two locations
1) Bisbee, Arizona ( which has long ago been played out)
2) Kimpese - Katanga region of the Congo (which is disappearing quickly)

Most available specimens are very small to about 1 to 2”. Large cabinet displays are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. With the only source still being the Congo, and with the higher quality specimens being extremely difficult to find, beautiful fully polished large cabinet display specimens of Shattuckite are an exceptional find!

Specimens from the Congo contain Shattuckite (dark blue-turquoise), Malachite (green), Chrysocolla (blue), Metallic Bornite (reddish brown) and occasionally Ajoite, Papagoite, and Plancheite (clear to blue) or Dioptase (green)
